A game changer.
A Coffee Enema is a relatively simple process where a mixture of coffee and water at body temperature is introduced into the Large Colon using a small Enema tube and Enema bucket or bag. This method not only mechanically cleanses the colon but also stimulates and enhances bile flow from the liver. Bile lubricates the entire small and large intestine and is the body’s powerful digestive enzyme to break down all foods consumed. The first mention of water enemas in medical literature dates back to the Ancient Egyptian Ebers Papyrus ( c. 1550 BCE). Coffee enemas have also been documented since the 1800s.
Did you know…
Coffee holds an acidic pH which is friendly to the acidic pH of the Large Colon. Since the Small intestine is an alkaline pH, drinking Coffee is therefore much more difficult for the body. The Enema is much more preferred.
Besides clearing the large colon, the coffee enema is also used to stimulate and boost liver function, which helps the liver clear toxins from the blood and lighten its toxic load. This enables the liver to flush out various harmful substances and free radicals from the bloodstream and lymphatic system. By doing this, coffee enemas give our liver a boost to help support the proper function of toxin elimination. When the body is detoxified, you can experience many benefits, including calmness, more vitality, mental clarity, decreased joint inflammation, headache relief and better bowel movements.
Liver Health & Detoxification
By clearing the bowel and stimulating the liver to release more bile flow with the coffee enema, the liver will now be more capable of helping remove unwanted toxins from the gut, bloodstream, and the lymphatic system. By mechanically flushing out the colon, this may help eliminate harmful bacteria, yeast, parasites and heavy metals that can lead to inflammation and disease. When our bodies have an excess of toxic buildup our liver and detoxification pathways can become overloaded. Coffee enemas assist our liver and gallbladder to work more efficiently
by also stimulating glutathione production, the body’s master antioxidant crucial for detoxification and neutralizing excess free radicals that can lead to inflammation.
Relief from Constipation & Digestive Issues
Coffee enemas can provide relief from constipation in several ways. The fresh water and coffee stimulates peristalsis of the colon. This helps remove waste and toxins, easing the discomfort of chronic constipation. Coffee also has benefits for diverticulitis, a condition where small tears in the colon walls trap food particles and bacteria, causing symptoms like bloating and abdominal pain.
Combating Candida and Parasites
Coffee enemas assist and can help create an environment in the small intestine that’s less hospitable to candida and parasites. Bile flow and increasing alkalinity discourages the growth of these unhealthy pathogens. If you’ve struggled with symptoms like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, fatigue, or joint pain due to candida or parasites, adding coffee enemas to your routine could help provide relief.
How do they work?
A coffee enema is similar to a water enema, but instead of using water, a coffee solution is used.
This coffee solution is administered in the same way as a water enema, through inserting a small tube into the rectum.
Once the coffee solution is inside the rectum, the caffeine and palmitic acid is absorbed by way of the hemorrhoidal veins. From there it travels through the portal vein which carries blood directly to the liver and gallbladder.
The palmitic acids in the coffee quickly affect the liver and promote the opening of the liver bile ducts. Additionally, caffeine entering the liver through the portal system triggers an increase in liver and gallbladder bile flow. Additionally, it dilates blood vessels via the effects of the coffee’s theophylline and theobromine which further increases blood flow to the liver. As a result accumulated toxins are expelled from the body along with the bile.
How to Do a Coffee Enema
Now that we’ve discussed the benefits, let’s dive into how to do a coffee enema safely and effectively:
Gather your supplies:
- Enema Kit
- Enema coffee (organic and mold-free light, gold, or white roast *Wilson’s brand)
- Clean filtered water
- Non-toxic lubricant like coconut oil.
- Yoga mat
- Towel
- Paper towel
- Timer
Brew the coffee:
- In a French press, steep 3 tablespoons of coarse ground coffee with hot purified water or
you can do the same using the stove by bringing 3 cups of purified water to a boil. Once
boiling mix in three tablespoons of coffee. (If you are caffeine sensitive, start with as
little as 1 tablespoon of coffee and increase the amount over time). - Steep for 10-20 minutes. Strain, and then add enough pure water to fill your enema
bucket/ bag, and to bring your coffee solution to body temperature (37C or 98.6F) - Alternatively, if preferred you can make your enema coffee in a regular coffee maker with
brown paper filters.
Set up your space:
While the coffee for the enema is steeping, make a comfortable place to lie down near a toilet and cover it with a designated coffee enema towel. (The towel may get coffee-stained.) Try using a yoga mat with a towel on top with some additional paper towels to support any messy stray drops or possible accidental leakage while inserting and removing the tip of the enema tube.
Administer the enema:
- Make sure the coffee solution is cooled/ warmed to body temperature (37 C or 98.6
Fahrenheit) and fill your enema bucket or bag. Coffee which is too hot will make the anal
sphincter flaccid and difficult to retain. Coffee which is too cold may cause the bowel to
cramp and tighten. - Coat the enema tube tip with a lubricant such as coconut oil.
- Lying on your left side, on your yoga mat, insert the nozzle into your rectum about 2 to 3
inches inside, and then release the open/shutoff valve to start the flow of coffee into the
colon. - Starting off slowly can help your bowels adjust. You may feel some strange sensations as
the bucket empties but it should not be painful. Close the clamp at any time you feel your
bowels need a minute to adjust. Ideally, you would want to empty the entire bucket but
don’t worry if you can’t retain it all. Just close the clamp when you feel full. Hold the
liquid inside for 12 to 15 minutes, or as best as you can, breathing through the urges to
eliminate. When complete release as a bowel movement into the toilet.
Clean all of your equipment after with hot soapy water. Spray everything with a solution of
hydrogen peroxide or hypochlorous acid solution and hot water to sanitize.
Coffee enemas can be done daily for up to 7 days. However, they are not for everyone, and
anyone with medical conditions should take caution and consult your primary care physician or
licensed medical professional beforehand. Coffee enemas can be followed up with electrolyte
replacement drinks. This will ensure your body maintains the proper electrolytes and minerals
you need.
